As a nonprofit organization, the Foundation is able to accept a full range of current and deferred gifts including gifts that return an income to the donor for a period of time. Gifts may be given to support the general work of the Foundation, a specific park or area, or a particular activity such as transportation of schoolchildren to one of the Department's outdoor campuses or the purchase of conservation easements. Gifts may be given in memory or in honor of another individual. Memorial funds may be established to accomplish particular objectives.

The Foundation conducts an annual "Friends of Parks and Wildlife" campaign to support its work. Begun in 2009, this campaign will permit the Foundation to be far more active in the future in preserving South Dakota's great natural places.
