PARKS & WILDLIFE FOUNDATION

The South Dakota Parks and Wildlife Foundation specializes in acceptance and management of land gifts.
If the donor desires, the gift of land can be sold to support a specific project or the general mission of the South Dakota Parks and Wildlife Foundation. But because the conservation of natural resources is our mission, the Foundation also accepts land that will be held by the public in perpetuity as wildlife habitat, recreation, fishing, hunting or other mission-related objectives.
Whether a gift of land is sold or retained, and how a retained gift of land is managed, is a decision reached jointly by the South Dakota Parks and Wildlife Foundation and the donor before the gift is made. And if the Foundation and donor cannot reach an agreement, the Foundation knows and works with others in the conservation field that may be able to help.
Land gifts to the South Dakota Parks and Wildlife Foundation are usually transferred to the Department of Game, Fish and Parks at some point after the donation with the agreement of the donor.
