Once a duck slough, Bitter Lake, in northeastern South Dakota's Day County has become an outdoorsman's dream. Year-round fishing and world class hunting for geese, diver ducks, pheasants and deer can be found near its' shores. It is this special place where a passionate sportsmen and local character, Curt Ewinger, felt most at home. Curt was an attorney in Aberdeen, but his two loves were his family and the outdoors and in particular, the Bitter Lake area.
The Ewinger family would like Curt's memory and passion for the outdoors to continue on Bitter Lake with the establishment of the Curt Ewinger Memorial Water Access Area. Located on the western shores of sprawling Bitter Lake, the access area would provide much needed lake access. By providing better and additional access to the waters of Bitter Lake, the Curt Ewinger Memorial Water Access Area will ensure generations of outdoor enthusiasts access to a place that was near and dear to Curt.
The South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Foundation is working to raise $12,000 in donations for boat ramp development at the site. Do-nations for this memorial are tax-deductible and will be matched by SD GFP.
To make a contribution to Curt Ewinger Water Access Area, complete this form, and mail it to the Foundation with your check, or contribute online. You will receive a "Thank You," and a tax deductible donation receipt.
